It's official. Lane Kiffin has been introduced as Tenneessee's new head coach. But the question looming in the air is whether or not his dad Monte Kiffin, the defensive coordinatior for the Bucs, will follow.
Monte Kiffin has been in the NFL for 26 seasons now, 13 with the Tampa Bay Bucs. He is the Father of the 'Cover 2' defense and known as one of the NFL's defensive minds of the modern era. Kiffin put the Bucs on the map with his D and has cultivated some of the best defensive players in the league; John Lynch, Derrick Brooks, Ronde Barber and Warren Sapp just to name a few.
He seems happy at home in the NFL, so why make a move--to college football for that matter? Is it because he'd like the opportunity to coach with his son? Or are there problems between him and coaches and staff in the Bucs organization? Could he and head coach Jon Gruden not be getting along?
No one knows. As of right now, Monte says its mere speculation and there are reports that he's leaning towards making the trip to Tennessee.
Could Monte 'Volunteer-ily' give up his NFL career and make the switch to college football?
